Specific. When we think of our goals, we must make sure we are thinking of clear and specific goals. This will enable us to focus and stay truly motivated until we achieve them. Thinking about what we need to achieve these goals, why they are important, and who will be involved are important questions we should answer beforehand.
Measurable. When we have measurable goals, we can keep track of our progress and understand how close or far we are from reaching a particular objective. Besides, measurable goals can help us find the motivation we might need from time to time, giving us a clear idea of how much time, work, or money it will take for us to complete our mission.
Achievable. As we mentioned before, setting realistic goals will keep us from losing motivation and feeling that we have failed. This will allow us to stretch our abilities without pushing ourselves too much. Before starting a new endeavor, ask yourself what you will need to achieve your goal and how realistic that goal really is.
Relevant. Even when it might sound a bit obvious, we should always set goals that matter to us. Also, thinking of how we will benefit from it or how it can improve our current situation is just as important. Besides, remember to think about whether the time is right, and whether it matches your other efforts and needs.
Time-bound. Last but not least, whenever we are starting a new project or working on a new endeavor, the best way to make sure we achieve our goals is by making them time-bound. Having a deadline we must meet is a great way to ensure we will stay focused and working towards it. Whether we set the date six months from now, six weeks, or six days, having a time limit will give us the push we need to achieve our objectives.
