This year we commemorate the Centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and at Sedna Inspirations we believe that there’s no better way to celebrate this milestone than by exercising our right to vote.
However, with a pandemic upending almost every aspect of our lives, this will be an election like no other. That’s why we have decided to share with you three useful tips that can help make things easier when you vote.
Confirm Your Voter Registration Status
You can check your voter registration status on Can I Vote, a website maintained by the National Association of Secretaries of State. Make sure to check your registration before the deadline to register to vote in your state, which may be up to 30 days before the election. This way you’ll have enough time to make changes or re-register if necessary.
Know Your Polling Place Location and Hours
Preparation is everything when it comes to voting, and this is especially true in this election. Can I Vote also includes a section to help you find your polling place. Just select your state in the drop-down menu and you will be directed to your state’s official voter portal where you will be able to check the hours and location of your polling place.
Voting in the Times of COVID-19
Under the current conditions, the safest way to vote would be by mail. Mail-in voting regulations vary by state; you can find a useful breakdown here. Note: you can also drop off your mail-in ballot to a polling location nearest you instead of mailing it back via USPS
If you can’t vote by mail, you can consider voting early. Open this link to find a list showing early voting rules in every state.
Finally, if you vote in person make sure to follow these COVID-19 prevention measures:
- Try to vote at a time when your precinct is less crowded
- Maintain a six-foot distance from other people at all times
- Be sure to wear a mask
- Wash your hands before and after voting. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if water and soap are not readily available
- Avoid touching your face
- Wipe down polling equipment with antibacterial wipes before and after voting
